Sidli Kingdom
Sidli Kingdom was a part of greater Koch Kingdom. During the reign of Shib Narayan in Bijni, a Koch General Sur Narayan was entrusted to rule the Sidli region.
Later Bhim Shing alias Bhima Patgiri became the king of Sidli who was the descendent of Jira, the wife of Haridas Mandal, father of king Biswa Singha, the founder of Koch kingdom.
The subsequent kings of Sidli Kingdom were- Samudra Narayan, Lakshmi Narayan, Uday Narayan, Surya Narayan, Gaurinarayan, Bishnu Narayan, Indra Narayan , Abhay Narayan and Ajit Narayan.
Earlier the capital of Sidli Kingdom was at Sidli. But during the period of Bishnu Narayan the capital was shifted to Bidyapur.
Moreover, during the period of king Gauri Narayan a battle fought with the Bhutanees with the help of British the present Indo-Bhutan international boundary was settled.
The last king of Sidli Kingdom was Ajit Narayan Dev who expired on 17th April, 1984.
Bidyapur is almost a deserted place now. Along with the Koch-Rajbongshis, the glory of Bidyapur is now fading away. The government has paid no heed for preservation of this valuable historical asset.
